QC Tools Creation
Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) developed QC Tools in 2013 and continued its development in 2015 with Preservation and Access Research and Development grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities. BAVC developed QCTools to assist moving image professionals in identifying audiovisual errors by providing a robust set of filters and analytics that highlight potential problems during the preservation and transfer processes. A unique and viable preservation aid, it verifies the creation of consistent, high-quality digital files created from magnetic media. BAVC worked with lead technical developer, Dave Rice, and partnered with the Indiana University Bloomington, to expand QCTools to accommodate the sizeable workflows of large-scale institutions, increasing efficiency and reducing human error.
