Frameworks for Protocols

Description:

Protocols are context driven policy. They can be developed to address problems where guidance is required. They can incorporate specific community perspectives, and be targeted to particular issues. Moreover, protocols have become an important tool for changing attitudes and behavior around Indigenous knowledge access, use and management. This publication by Jane Anderson is a comprehensive guide on protocols: what they are and what they are not, when are protocols needed, what can protocols do for you or your community, and how and when to deal with intellectual property law. It also provides protocol templates for biodiscovery, digital archives, and research. This publication was used by Jane Anderson for her session on intellectual property at the 2015 ATALM pre-conference workshop sponsored by the Sustainable Heritage Network titled "Developing Tools to Navigate Intellectual Property and Protect Cultural Heritage," held in Washington DC on September 10, 2015.
