Digital Language Archiving as a Field

Description:

In this video, Gary Holton, Director of the Alaska Native Language Archive, discusses some of the things you want to bear in mind as you approach the field of language documentation. In particular, he explains the differences between digitization and preservation, backing up data and archiving it, and preservation and presentation. This video supplements the SHN half-day workshop, "Preserving and Enhancing Native Language Resources in Tribal Libraries, Archives, and Museums" given by Holton and Andrea Berez-Kroeker, Assistant Professor on Linguistics at University of Hawai'i, as part of the pre-ATALM SHN Workshops, held in Washington, DC on September 10, 2015.
