This powerpoint was used for the session titled "Appraisal and Description Metadata" given by Maggie Kruesi at the 2015 Sustainable Heritage Network Post-ATALM Workshop, held at the Library of Congress in Washington DC on September 14. Some of the topics covered in this presentation include the importance of preserving contextual information; what is metadata; identification of data elements; metadata for time-based media; descriptive and technical metadata standards; and the use of metadata for mapping and oral history.
