Tribal Digitization Priorities and Challenges

This session, which was part of the 2014 SHN Regional Workshop at Washington State University, addressed tribal concerns for digitizing cultural materials. The session included an overview of the Plateau Peoples' Web Portal as an example of a digital project rooted in the self-articulated needs and concerns of the tribes involved, a discussion of the importance of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), strategies for attaining grant funding, and a discussion of Mukurtu as a content management system (CMS) that can provide flexible ways to describe and provide access to cultural heritage. For the most current information on Mukurtu CMS, visit http://mukurtu.org/ and visit http://support.mukurtu.org/ for Mukurtu CMS software support.
