In this video, Rick West, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Autry National Center of the American West, gives his report on the Museum Summit that took place on September 9, 2015 as part of the pre-conference activities at the 2015 Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums conference. West discusses the development of protocols for dealing with Indigenous materials. West provides an overview of the impact of repatriation laws on the relationship between museums and Native American communities. West states that in an attempt to focus on collaboration between large museums and Native communities, the members of the Summit will seek to educate institutions, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, on how to create collaboration and dialogue. The report was given on September 11, 2015 at the ATALM conference in Washington, DC.
