Logistics of Accessing Physical Archival Materials
In this video, Caitlin Haynes, Reference Archivist at the Smithsonian Institutions's National Anthropological Archives, discusses what to do, what to prepare, and what to expect for conducting archival research on site. Topics covered include: searching for collections online, understanding repository jargon, contacting repository staff, making a research appointment, and organizing research time. This video supplements the session, "Finding Indigenous-Related Collections in the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History and National Museum of the American Indian, and the Library of Congress" given at the 2017 ATALM annual conference held in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, on October 10-13, 2017.
