Adding Context to Content: Successfully Engaging Tribal Elders in Digital Projects
In this session, Aaron LaFromboise, Director of Library Services, Blackfeet Community College; Joseph Rutherford, Library Network Technician, Medicine Spring Library-Blackfeet Community College, discuss how engaging with elders can be a challenge, and how engaging elders to create metadata for digitized video content presents its own set of challenges. Presenters will discuss hurdles, triumphs, and lessons learned through working with Blackfeet elders to gather data from a community video collection and produce useful, culturally-relevant metadata. This presentation provides “how to” information on engaging multiple generations with technology and tips on training interns to collect accurate metadata. This session was part of the ATALM annual conference held in Prior Lake, Minnesota, on October 8-11, 2018.
