This curated collection provides an introduction to the basics of image digitization, including common formats, specifications, selecting equipment, and following a tested workflow.
After reading, watching, and working through these resources, you will be able to plan and prepare for basic image digitization. All resources can be used individually, but if you are new to image digitization we suggest reviewing the resources and sections in the order they are presented.
This collection is divided into the following sub-collections:
- Technical Specifications - Resources to understand and select appropriate technical specifications and standards.
- Selecting Equipment - Resources to understand and select equipment for capturing images.
- Examples and Tutorials - Resources including examples and tutorials for scanning photographs, negatives, editing images, and example instructions.
This collection does not provide general resources on digital project planning. For more information on these topics, view the Writing a Digitization Policy and Planning for Digital Projects and Digitization curated collections and search the SHN for additional resources. For long term sustainability, we recommend looking into digital project planning and writing a digitization policy before starting a digitization project.
