Introduction to Audio Digitization

This curated collection provides an introduction to the basics of audio digitization.

Audio digitization is the practice of converting analog audio recordings from formats such as cassette, open reel, or wax cylinders to a digital format. As many analog formats near the end of their stable life and are at an increased risk of damage, converting them to digital formats allows for digital preservation and management, ensuring long term access.

After reading, watching, and working through these resources you will be prepared to plan, prepare for, and conduct basic audio digitization. If you are new to digitization, we suggest reviewing the resources below, and the sections in the right sidebar, in the order they are presented. However, all resources can stand alone if you are looking for something specific.
