Materials for Storage and Soft Packing
Description:
Choosing appropriate materials for storage containers, supports, and soft packing can be confusing. Which foams are good? Is buffered paper better than acid-free? Why do some plastics turn yellow? What is a source for good materials? Participants will take home a sample sheet with good and bad examples of materials commonly found with collections. Techniques for testing materials will be discussed/demonstrated. Examples of various types of storage supports that utilize the materials will be available. This session was part of the 2016 ATALM annual conference held in Phoenix, Arizona, on September 10-13, 2016.
