Care and Curation of Basketry

In this video, Nancy Odegaard and Gina Watkinson, both conservators at the Arizona State Museum, discuss museum stewardship techniques for basketry by sharing their experiences working on the "Woven Wonders Basketry Preservation Project," a Save America's Treasures project at the Arizona State Museum. Through a hands-on demonstration, the presenters show how to identify baskets, handle them appropriately, and how to clean and mount them safely. They also provide some best practices on cataloging, photographing, documenting, storing and labeling basket collections. This session was part of the 2015 ATALM annual conference held in Washington, DC on September 9-12, 2015.
