Cleaning Ceramics: Considerations and Techniques

Nicole Grabow, the Director of Preventive Conservation at the Midwest Art Conservation Center (MACC), introduces issues surrounding the cleaning of ceramics including reversibility, preservation of historic materials, and the potential negative effects of wet cleaning techniques. Different types of ceramic bodies and surface treatments will be discussed, and a variety of dry cleaning methods will be introduced.
