Archiving Intangible Cultural Heritage

In this session, Stephen Echerd, Language Revitalization Specialist at SIL International, discusses tangible cultural heritage, or physical items which can be collected, preserved, curated, and displayed, as well as intangible cultural heritage, which is invisible, and how this presents difficulties related to preservation. Intangible cultural heritage is vitally important because it is the basis of identity: words, songs, stories, rituals, and knowledge for making the artifacts of tangible culture. This session presents a variety of powerful methods and free computer tools which support collecting, organizing, archiving, and giving future generations access to intangible cultural heritage.
