Preservation 101: The Preservation Environment

In this video, Rebecca Elder, Principal at Rebecca Elder Cultural Heritage Preservation, provides a basic introduction to maintaining the proper storage environment for paper-based and photographic materials. Some of the topics covered include: recommended levels for temperature and relative humidity, how to set up an environmental monitoring program, the effects of light on collections, ways to reduce light damage, and pest control techniques. This session was part of the 2016 ATALM annual conference held in Phoenix, Arizona, on September 10-13, 2016.
