Connecting to Collections: Historical Sound Recordings

In this presentation, Nathan Georgitis, Digital Collections Librarian at the Digital Scholarship Center at University of Oregon Libraries, discusses about the state of sound recordings, the challenges to preserving these materials, and the importance of digitization for preserving and providing access. Some of the topics he addresses in his presentation include: digital audio file management, preservation assessment, prioritization, audio formats at risk, and working with service providers. This presentation was given at the SHN sponsored Digitization Basics Workshop, held at the Digital Scholarship Center at University of Oregon Libraries, on May 6, 2016.

Digitizing Cassettes for Access [Tutorial]

In this tutorial, Guha Shankar, Folklife Specialist and Jon Gold, Audio-Visual Technician at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, demonstrate how to create a digital audio file for access purposes from an analog source using the Audacity recording software. This tutorial was recorded during the 2015 Post-ATALM SHN Workshop, held at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC on September 13-15, 2015.
