Digital Data Management for Native American Language Documentation, Archiving, and Use
In this presentation, Colleen Fitzgerald, Program Officer at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Mary Downs, Senior Program Oficer at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), provide an overview of the Documenting Endangered Languages Program (DEL), a funding partnership between the NSF and the NEH that supports projects that develop and advance knowledge concerning endangered languages. The presentation features the research of three project directors of recent DEL awards. Awardees present on the challenges and rewards of creating a language database and dictionary; archiving and preservation of Native Languages; and repurposing language data for language reclamation, revitalization, and teaching. This session was part of the 2015 ATALM annual conference held in Washington, DC on September 9-12, 2015.
